They found it was hilarious to change names, they were Peppa Pig, Tinker Bell, etc. Some of them were 95 years old, some were just 1 or 2.This allowed for maximum number of pairings because I want the students to be able to talk with anyone in their class and not just their best friend or the person closest to them.It forced them to use communicative strategies to get their point across. Then, we talked about how climate change and other environmental diasters are causing them to go extinct.Everybody who came out to play or do an activity had to put my big pink sunglasses on or had to hold a heart balloon! We learnt to say "Te quiero", the kids wrote it down on small post it notes and they will give them to somebody tomorrow:-).We haven't finished celebrating love yet, in April we will talk about "el dia de San Jordi", the Catalan Valentine's Day, when boys give roses to the girls and girls give the boys books. What a great opportunity to write our own minibooks!
I told them that they could change identities and I gave a demonstration at the front of the class: I was Dora the Explorer and my partner was Bob the Builder!I am near the end of my trimester and trying to review some of what we have learned to prepare students for their upcoming final assessments.Valentine’s Day is fun, but I don’t want to miss a day of language learning just for fun. I let them know they will be “speed dating” and they need to find out important info about this new person. You won’t want to date them if they are 10 years old.I set my room up in a big circle with desks facing each other like this… Plus other fun questions like these: Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend? I have used a bell or percussion instrument to signal for them to move, but this year I’m looking for a smooching sound app to spice things up!Then I will give them a list of questions for each student to answer on their own. I will give them 15 seconds one time, 30 the next, and sometimes 1 minute (which gets uncomfortable, but it great to get them asking their OWN questions.) At the end, I have them pick the most interesting date they had and have they write down what they learned about that person (in the language) and the guy and girl with the most votes will win a cupcake/candy from me! Valentine’s Day is a great time to try SPEED DATING!
It's Friday and the second to last period of the day when my Spanish 4 Honors class walks in.
